Not only this, but every single-player track you race on comes coupled with the top times that other TrackManiacs have recorded - as well as access to downloadable replays if you want to steal their race tactics. In United, you get a daily allowance of coppers, alongside those that you earn, to spend on tracks and car skins within the community -all of which can be accessed through the game's interface rather than on the traditional gallic websites. Mr Steam, Mr EA Downloader - the French have effortlessly bettered you. For speed, intelligence, community-thinking and sheer effortless design, Nadeo have pretty much trumped the online systems of every game I've ever played. Which is why (after a bizarrely hassle-free StarForce installation), I was gobsmacked, thunderstruck and 'Cor Blimey, Misterl'-ed to find myself playing online on a downloaded map within a single solitary minute of booting up TrackMania: United. Battlefield is the usual culprit - trudging through its server listings, finding decently populated servers, struggling with patches, having my daily battle with PunkBuster. With over 100,000 fan-made maps available already, you'd have to be a fool or a UKIP voter to not be excited. A community which, by the way, United is squarely intending to expand with some remarkable online capabilities - a setup not unlike the MySpace revolution.Ĭoppers, the game currency, can now be both earned in-game and spent online, allowing budding track designers and car-pimpers to sell their wares online - while all manner of online rankings and racings will be a mere click of the mouse away. So that's stadium courses, rally courses, the twists and turns of the original's desert courses and the beautiful vistas of Sunrise et al, mixed in with all the track design and car customisation so beloved by the TrackManiac collective. TrackMania United is essentially a compilation of every iteration of the game wrapped into a remarkably speedy and shiny modern-day engine. The little racing game with the great big heart that occupies more bandwidth in France than stuff about urban rioting and snails. Best regards and Big Thanks to PavelDAS, for provided Alcohol 120% dump, taken from original game DVD.What Have The French ever done for us? Well, there's TrackMania for one. Players can exchange 3D car models, 2D skins for existing cars, tracks, movies or replays, and even unique sounds. Players also have ManiaLinks - online profiles from which they can easily display and share all their custom-made content for coppers, the in-game currency. Each country is further divided into zones (ManiaZones) or provinces to find people living nearby. The multiplayer support now has a peer-to-peer system for players to share their custom content, as well as a unified ranking system, allowing players to either earn coppers by playing solo or online, and making their way up the general leaderboard, as well as their country's. TrackMania United's main focus is its community. The editor contains about 1,000 constructions blocks with various customization options. The game has the seven environments inspired by the earlier games: Desert, Snow, Rally (TrackMania), Island, Bay, Coast (Trackmania Sunrise) and Stadium (Trackmania Nations), all overhauled with more features. The game modes have been split into Race, Puzzle and Platform, with different difficulty levels: easy, normal, hard and extreme. As with its predecessors, players can race through a series of tracks with various types of cars and environments earning medals for beating times, doing crazy stunts, or building huge and insane tracks with the included editor. TrackMania United, as the name states, unites all the elements of the earlier games in the TrackMania series.
